Serving the LGBTQ+ Community

Cary is an effective listener, processes complex information with ease, and communicates with clarity. She and her team were consistently proactive, responsive, and available. Her fees are fair for the quality of service, care, and results that you will receive. Not only did my family get through the divorce case with less turmoil than what could have been expected, we completed this in a timely manner so everyone can now focus on moving forward in the next chapter in our lives.

Maryland Same-Sex Divorce

In 2013, through the Civil Marriage Protection Act, same-sex marriages became legal in Maryland. In 2015, the United States Supreme Court authorized same-sex marriages throughout the United States. Along with the right to marry also came the right for same-sex couples to divorce.

At Jacobson Family Law, we work closely with all types of families and couples including gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer. Our attorneys and divorce mediators understand that there are unique differences that need to be addressed even though many of the legal rights and issues may be the same. We can assist with:

  • Divorce
  • Mediation
  • Child custody
  • Child support
  • Alimony/spousal support
  • Property division
  • Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
  • Estate planning

As Maryland same-sex divorce lawyers, we assist couples in resolving issues outside of court either through divorce mediation, collaborative divorce, or settlement negotiation. By reaching an agreement on their own, the couple is able to decide for themselves and their families what property, custody, and financial support arrangements will work best for their particular situation.

Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements

We also work with couples seeking to get married in securing their future through a prenuptial agreement or those that may be recently married through a postnuptial agreement.

Estate and Medical Care Planning

It is important that LGBTQ individuals protect their families and assets by having an estate plan, powers of attorneys, and advanced directives to ensure their loved ones are cared for after their death.
